Underestimating the Input
Last week, we looked at how we often overestimate our workouts and activity levels.
This week, we shift to the other side - how we underestimate our nutrition.
More Than Just Food
When people think about nutrition, they usually think about one thing:
What they eat.
But nutrition is much broader than that.
It includes:
What you eat
What you drink
What you supplement
What you smoke
What you put on your skin
Nourishment isn’t just intake.
It’s everything your body absorbs.
The Common Assumption
“I eat well.”
“I don’t eat that bad.”
These are some of the most common statements heard in fitness.
And in reality, only a small percentage of people who say this are actually nourishing their bodies effectively.
Why?
Because what’s often overlooked adds up:
That “one glass” of wine
Not drinking enough water
Overloading or misusing supplements
Ignoring recovery and skin care
All of it counts.
What the Body Does
The body is incredibly adaptive.
When it gets what it needs, it performs well.
Energy improves. Mood stabilizes. Systems function properly.
When it doesn’t, it compensates.
It starts prioritizing essential functions and reducing others.
Over time, that imbalance shows up as fatigue, poor recovery, or other underlying issues.
The Illusion of “Not That Bad”
New tools and trends may change how much we eat.
But they don’t solve how well we nourish.
Weight loss alone doesn’t equal health.
And “not that bad” often hides what’s being missed.
The real shift happens when you look at the full picture of what you’re giving your body - and what you’re not.
A Simple Check-In
Next time you think:
“I’m doing okay with my nutrition.”
Pause.
Look at the full picture.
Everything you consume - or don’t - plays a role.
That’s where real progress begins.
