Overestimating the Work
One of the biggest reasons progress stalls in fitness and wellness is simple:
We overestimate our activity
and underestimate our nutrition
This week, we focus on the first.
Activity vs Workout
Most people blur the line between movement and training.
Walking to work.
Taking the stairs.
Carrying groceries.
All of this is physical activity.
Important? Yes.
Necessary? Absolutely.
But it’s not a workout.
A workout is intentional.
Planned.
Designed to improve or maintain something specific.
Dancing all night isn’t a workout.
Doing your job isn’t a workout.
It’s movement — not training.
Where We Get It Wrong
Many people count everything they do as a workout.
That’s where the overestimation happens.
A simple example:
Two delivery drivers spend all day lifting packages.
Then they go to the gym after work.
Why?
Because what they did earlier was their job.
What they do in the gym is their training.
Even Professionals Train Differently
That’s what working out is for.
The purpose of training is to improve your ability to perform your physical activities.
For the everyday person, it’s to make running up the stairs easier.
For a professional soccer player, it’s to make running up and down the field easier.
But even they don’t confuse the two.
A match is performance.
Training is preparation.
Daily movement is part of life.
Workouts are what make that movement easier, stronger, and more efficient.
Why It Matters
Workouts exist to make your daily life easier.
Running up the stairs.
Carrying weight.
Moving without getting winded.
When workouts disappear, even simple tasks start to feel harder.
People often say:
“But I walk a lot. I move all day.”
And yet, something feels off.
What’s usually missing is structured training.
The Real Balance
The strongest, most capable people don’t just move more.
They combine:
Daily activity
+
Intentional workouts
That balance is what builds lasting strength and endurance.
Without it, movement alone isn’t enough.
