This week, we are continuing with our focus on the elbows and forearms to tackle the areas that take a relentless beating from typing, texting, and everyday lifting: the elbows, forearms, wrists, and fingers. We went over quite a bit last week, and if you added those routines to your myofascial routine, you undoubtedly are feeling the difference. Today, we take it a bit further with step 2 and bring both parts together.

Step 2: The Neural Wall Press (Fascial Nerve Glide)

This movement introduces a "terminal end-range stretch" to the wrist and fingers, acting as a powerful mechanical lever to pull locked tension straight out of your upper spine and rib cage.

The Setup

Stand in the same balanced position with your feet straight.

The Cue

Position A (Walls Out/Fingers Up)

Extend your arms straight out to your sides at shoulder height, with your palms facing out as though they are pushing against two invisible walls on each side. Now, actively draw your fingers back toward the back of your hands, as though you are trying to make your fingernails touch your forearms. Hold for a count of 10.

Position B (Walls Out/Fingers Down)

Keep your arms extended to the sides. Rotate your wrists so your fingers point straight down toward the ground, palms still pushing outward. Drive the heels of your hands away while pulling your fingers toward the underside of your wrists. Hold for a count of 10.

Position C (Palms In/Fingers Up)

Keep your arms extended out to the sides, but turn your palms inward to face your body, with your fingers pointing toward the sky. Imagine that you are trying to touch your wrists with your fingers by bending your hands sharply inward. Hold for a count of 10. Repeat 2 more times (3 times total).

Position D (Palms In/Fingers Down)

With your arms still outstretched and your palms still facing your body, point your fingers straight down toward the ground. Flex your wrists upward, attempting to touch the inside of your wrists with your fingers. Hold for a count of 10. Repeat 2 more times (3 times total).

What This Does

Fingers Up/Down (Palms Out): Flosses the median nerve and opens the carpal tunnel fascia. Simultaneously, pushing the walls away forces your shoulder blades to widen, driving a massive decompression stretch into your Rhomboids, Middle Trapezius, and the individual vertebrae of your Thoracic Spine (mid-back).

Palms In (Fingers Up/Down): Targets the forearm extensors and outer elbow. Because the arm is wrapped rotationally, this pulls directly on the top corners of your shoulder blades, unlocking the Levator Scapulae and the deep Rotator Cuff stabilizers (Infraspinatus).

Additional Instructions

The Guardrail

Do not tense up any other part of your body. Keep your shoulders relaxed and down the whole time. Allow any tension you feel to be a pure result of the deep fascia lengthening, not because of any extra muscular force you are providing. Be gentle.

The Breath & Hold

Maintain a smooth, steady breath. Keep reaching mentally for a count of 10, then gently relax.

What to Notice

Palms Out: Expect to feel an intense, "zingy" pulling sensation down your inner arm. But look deeper: notice the sudden widening across your upper back and the feeling of space opening up between your ribs and mid-back vertebrae.

Palms In: Pay close attention to the deep release traveling up the back-sides of your neck and into the rear of your shoulder joint shells, right where structural tension headaches are born.

Repetitions

Repeat each variation 3 times total.

The Recovery Boost

Once you finish all directions, grab your mini massage gun and briefly run it over all the areas where you felt the stretch—specifically the forearms, the inner elbows, and the palms of your hands—to flood the tissue with fresh, healing circulation.

Wrapping Up

Remember, true myofascial care is never about forcing your way through stiffness or straining for a deeper stretch. Lasting physical relief happens the moment you give your nervous system permission to drop its defensive grip. Your body possesses an incredible ability to adapt and heal; by dedicating just a few intentional minutes today to breathe and visualize this new length, you are restructuring your alignment from the inside out. You are doing phenomenal work - keep paying close attention to the subtle signals your body sends you!

To your health.
